DefenseLite Security Film & Bullet Resistant Glazing from FSJ Tactical

Retrofit security film, forced-entry glazing, bullet resistant film systems, and security doors that harden the glass you already have, without tearing out a single window.

Glass is the weakest link in almost every building. It's the first thing an intruder targets in a smash-and-grab, the first barrier an active shooter has to defeat, and the first material to turn into flying shrapnel in a blast or storm. DefenseLite security glazing turns that weak link into a layered defense, and FSJ Tactical installs it nationwide.

What DefenseLite Security Glazing Does

DefenseLite is a complete family of retrofit security film, polycarbonate security glazing, bullet resistant glazing, and security doors. Instead of ripping out windows and replacing them with heavy, expensive ballistic glass, DefenseLite systems install over or onto the glass you already have. The result is a building that looks the same from the street but behaves very differently when someone tries to break in.

Depending on the level you choose, DefenseLite can:

  • Delay entry so staff have time to lock down and law enforcement has time to respond
  • Deny entry by keeping attackers out even after the primary glass is broken
  • Stop ballistic threats with UL 752-rated bullet resistant glazing
  • Contain glass fragments during blasts, hurricanes, and riots
  • Resist vandalism and graffiti with sacrificial surface films
  • Reduce noise, UV fading, and energy loss through existing windows

The DefenseLite Product Family

RiotLite Security Film

A multi-layer security film applied directly to existing glass. Independently tested to ASTM F3561 Level 3. Holds glass together and slows smash-and-grab and riot attacks. Explore RiotLite

DefenseLite Shield

A vented polycarbonate overlay mounted to the existing frame. The panel flexes and absorbs impact energy instead of shattering, denying access even after the glass behind it breaks. See polycarbonate windows

DefenseLite Pro

The heavy-duty forced-entry system: thicker polycarbonate, extrusions about twice as robust, and testing to ASTM F3561 Level 8. Explore DefenseLite Pro

BulletShield

"Body armor for windows." A UL 752-rated bullet resistant glazing retrofit in polycarbonate or glass-clad configurations. Explore BulletShield

AccessShield & Bullet-Resistant Doors

Re-glaze existing commercial doors with forced-entry or bullet-resistant lites, or install complete bullet-resistant doors and frames. Explore security doors

SafeSuite Survival System

Integrated safe rooms that combine security glazing, ballistic wall panels, secure doors, and protective furniture. Explore SafeSuite

Beyond these core systems, the DefenseLite portfolio includes DefenseLite CVS for curtain walls, CaseShield display-case protection, bullet-resistant transaction windows, pass-through drawers and counters, and the Mobile SafeShield portable ballistic barrier.

How a DefenseLite Overlay Works

A DefenseLite overlay shield is mounted to the existing window or door frame with a proprietary vented aluminum extrusion. That extrusion creates a controlled air gap between the polycarbonate shield and the primary glass. When the shield is struck, it flexes and spreads the energy of each blow. Attackers who expect glass to give way quickly find that it doesn't.

The patented, climate-specific venting system lets the space between the shield and the glass breathe. That prevents condensation and minimizes the "pillowing" or distortion common in rigid, unvented overglaze systems. Shields are secured with structural tapes, anchors, and security fasteners, and framing is available in standard and custom finishes to blend with your storefront.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DefenseLite?

DefenseLite is a family of retrofit security glazing products that install over or onto existing glass. The line runs from RiotLite multi-layer security film, to vented polycarbonate overlay shields (DefenseLite and DefenseLite Pro), to BulletShield UL 752 ballistic glazing, AccessShield door re-glazing, bullet-resistant doors, and complete SafeSuite safe rooms. FSJ Tactical assesses, specifies, and installs these systems.

Is DefenseLite the same as bullet proof window film?

No. Standard security film, including products marketed as "bullet proof window film," holds broken glass together but does not stop bullets on ordinary glass. DefenseLite's ballistic product is BulletShield, a UL 752-rated glazing system. RiotLite film and DefenseLite polycarbonate shields are forced-entry products designed to delay or deny entry. FSJ Tactical will explain exactly what each level does so you never pay for a false sense of security.

Do I have to replace my windows or doors?

Usually not. Every DefenseLite product is engineered to retrofit existing glass, storefront framing, door lites, and curtain walls. That avoids the cost, downtime, and permitting of full glass replacement while keeping the building's look.

How strong is DefenseLite polycarbonate compared to glass?

The polycarbonate used in DefenseLite overlay shields is rated about 250 times stronger than glass. In instrumented impact testing (ASTM D3763, 0.125" samples), DefenseLite sheet absorbed more than 47 ft·lbs of energy, compared with about 0.5 ft·lbs for glass and 2 ft·lbs for acrylic.

Will security glazing change how my building looks?

DefenseLite systems are designed to be nearly invisible. Clear sheet transmits about 86% of visible light, framing can be powder coated to match existing mullions, and RiotLite film is optically clear.

Does DefenseLite help with storms, noise, and energy?

Yes. DefenseLite Pro and BulletShield have been tested to ASTM E1886/E1996 hurricane impact for Miami-Dade wind zone 5 and to ASTM F1642 blast criteria. The air gap created by an overlay shield also reduces street noise (a DefenseLite system tested at STC 41 / OITC 33) and improves the insulation of existing glass.

What warranty comes with DefenseLite?

Warranties depend on the system. DefenseLite sheet carries a two-year parts and labor warranty, and engineered systems are offered with warranties ranging from 2 up to 15 years. FSJ Tactical will provide the warranty terms for your specific configuration with your proposal.
