Schools & Campuses | FSJ Tactical
School Security Film, Bullet Resistant Glazing & Security Doors
FSJ Tactical helps K-12 schools, daycares, and campuses harden entries, classrooms, and sidelights with DefenseLite security film and security glazing that keeps learning spaces bright and welcoming.
Administrators face a real dilemma: how do you secure a school while keeping classrooms bright, open, and non-threatening? Nearly invisible security glazing and window film retrofits are among the most effective measures available, and FSJ Tactical installs them for daycares, K-12 schools, and college campuses.
Prevent, Prepare, Protect
Campus hardening is a collection of safety techniques and best practices that reduce vulnerability in school infrastructure in the event of an active-shooter attack. Glass is a central part of that strategy. Front entries, vestibules, sidelights, and classroom windows are where an intruder will try to get in. Every second of delay at the glass gives staff time to lock down and gives law enforcement time to arrive.
Where to Protect First
Main Entry & Lobby Glass
BulletShield ballistic glazing provides both forced-entry and ballistic resistance at the front entry and secure vestibule.
Administration & Reception
Bullet-resistant transaction windows and pass-through trays protect front-office staff who screen visitors.
Side Entries & Sidelights
A DefenseLite polycarbonate shield deters forced entry at side doors and sidelights, and bullet-resistant sidelight glazing keeps visibility and light.
Safe Classrooms
Bullet-resistant wall panels, the Safe Shutter whiteboard, the Safe Slideout, and bullet-resistant wood doors create SafeSuite classrooms that double as shelters.
Choosing the Right Level for Each Opening
Not every window needs the same protection. Using the Zones of Defense approach, FSJ Tactical matches the product to the risk:
| School Area | Typical Risk | Recommended DefenseLite Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Main entry, vestibule, lobby | Highest | BulletShield or DefenseLite Pro |
| Side entries, sidelights, ground-floor windows | High to moderate | DefenseLite Pro or DefenseLite shield |
| Classroom windows and interior glass | Moderate | RiotLite security film or DefenseLite shield |
| Classroom doors | Moderate to high | AccessShield re-glazing or bullet-resistant doors |

Classroom Tools That Double as Protection
DefenseLite safe-space products are designed to blend into the classroom:
- Safe Shutter™: a bullet-resistant whiteboard that swings 180° to block an attacker's line of sight through a door or window, rated Ballistic Level 3–8
- Safe Slideout™: an inconspicuous bullet-resistant panel finished in PLAM, wood, or dry-erase surface that slides out to block a vision lite
- Bullet-resistant wall panels: fiberglass panels with an optional whiteboard face that protect while serving as a teaching tool
- Bullet-resistant wood doors: wood doors and frames built to resist ballistic and forced-entry threats
Bright Classrooms, Better Comfort
DefenseLite shields preserve natural light, which matters for learning. The air gap they create also reduces outside noise and improves insulation, and UV protection reduces fading. Sacrificial anti-graffiti layers keep exterior glass looking new.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best security film for schools?
It depends on the opening. RiotLite security film, tested to ASTM F3561 Level 3, is a cost-effective way to slow entry through classroom windows and interior glass. For main entries and vestibules, FSJ Tactical recommends DefenseLite Pro (ASTM F3561 Level 8) for forced-entry denial or BulletShield for ballistic protection. See our school security film comparison for details.
Does bullet proof window film work in schools?
Standard window film does not stop bullets on ordinary glass. What film does well is hold glass in place and delay an intruder. Ballistic protection requires a UL 752-rated system like BulletShield.
Can classroom doors be upgraded without replacing them?
Yes. AccessShield re-glazes the lites in existing commercial aluminum doors with forced-entry or bullet-resistant panels. Classroom sidelights can be protected with overlay shields or film.
Will installation disrupt classes?
DefenseLite systems install over existing glass, so most work is completed opening by opening and can be scheduled for evenings, weekends, or summer break.
Can schools use grants for security glazing?
Many districts fund glazing upgrades with state school-safety grants and federal programs. FSJ Tactical provides test reports, product data, and budgetary proposals to support applications.
