Church & House of Worship Security Film and Bullet Resistant Windows
Protect your congregation, clergy, and sacred spaces with discreet DefenseLite security film, security glazing, and bullet resistant doors that keep your doors open and welcoming.
A house of worship should feel open to everyone who walks through its doors. That openness is exactly why security has become a critical concern for churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples. FSJ Tactical helps congregations protect people and sacred spaces with discreet DefenseLite security glazing that never compromises the welcoming atmosphere.
Faith and Safety, Hand in Hand
In today's unpredictable world, protecting your congregation, clergy, and staff requires security measures that are effective but not intimidating. Most attacks on houses of worship begin at the entry, and most entries are glass. Hardening that glass buys the time your safety team needs to lock down, shelter, and call for help.
A Layered Approach for Worship Campuses
The most effective and economical approach uses different levels of protection where they make the most sense:
Main Entry & Lobby Glass
BulletShield ballistic glazing provides both forced-entry and ballistic resistance at the doors and lobby glass where an attacker would first approach.
Side Windows, Side Entries & Sidelights
Bullet-resistant or forced-entry glazing offers visibility and light while enhancing security at secondary openings.
Bullet-Resistant Wood Doors
Wood doors and frames built for UL 752 Level 3 protection, finished to match your sanctuary, offices, or fellowship hall. Learn about security doors.
Religious Classrooms & Offices
Interior bullet-resistant glazing protects religious classrooms, congregant meeting rooms, and clergy and staff offices. SafeSuite can turn an existing room into a safe space.
Security Film vs. Ballistic Glazing: Know the Difference
Many congregations are sold "bullet proof window film" with the expectation that it will stop gunfire. Standard security window film is not ballistically rated unless applied to glass that is already certified ballistic-resistant. Its real benefit is holding shattered glass in place to reduce injuries and slow intrusion.
That makes film valuable for broad coverage across many windows. RiotLite is tested to ASTM F3561 Level 3 when installed as a system. But at the main entry, where a determined attacker will focus, FSJ Tactical recommends DefenseLite Pro for forced-entry denial or BulletShield for ballistic protection. A tiered approach puts your budget where it matters most. See our security film comparison for a side-by-side view.
Designed to Preserve Beauty
Worship spaces are architecturally significant. DefenseLite systems:
- Install over existing glass, so original windows stay in place
- Use clear polycarbonate that transmits about 86% of visible light
- Offer framing in standard and custom finishes
- Include bullet-resistant doors in solid wood, veneer, or PLAM with historical replication options
- Can conceal bullet-resistant wall panels behind existing finishes
Additional Benefits
The air gap created by a DefenseLite shield also reduces street noise and improves insulation, which can make sanctuaries quieter and more comfortable. Sacrificial anti-graffiti layers protect exterior glass from vandalism, and UV protection helps reduce fading of furnishings and textiles.
Start with a site walk. FSJ Tactical will review your entries, windows, and gathering spaces and recommend a phased plan that fits your congregation's budget and grant timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will security glazing make our church feel like a fortress?
No. DefenseLite products are designed to be nearly invisible. Shields are optically clear, framing can match existing finishes, and bullet-resistant wood doors can be built in any species or style, including historical replication.
Does security film stop bullets on church windows?
Standard security film does not stop bullets on ordinary glass. It holds broken glass in place and delays entry. For ballistic protection, FSJ Tactical recommends BulletShield glazing at main entries and other high-risk openings, with RiotLite film on secondary windows.
Can you protect stained glass or historic windows?
In many cases, yes. Overlay shields can be mounted on the interior or exterior of historic openings to protect the original glass. Each opening is evaluated during the site assessment.
Is funding available for house of worship security?
Many congregations use the FEMA Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) and state programs for physical security upgrades. FSJ Tactical can provide product data, test reports, and proposals to support your application.
